We can smell the fear! It’s lingering at the gates of Somerset House where even the most die-hard high heelers contemplate a gracious entrance on the uneven stone walkways.

Here follows our gathered tips to keep ankles and dignity intact while overcoming this obstacle.

1. “Always walk on the stones themselves. As the saying goes – if you step on a crack you will fall and break your back!”

Cracks are the enemy according to the Michael Lewis shoe team.

2. “Always wedges, never stiletto’s”says the guru herself, Trinny Woodall.

3. “Take brave coltish steps, and find yourself a strapping gentlemen walker”, Vogue’s Emma Elwick is strutting in style.

4. “Er, just wear flats. I am always grateful when I’m wearing them”, Matches’ Bridget Cosgrave is erring on the side of caution.

5. “Don’t look down, it’ll knock you off balance”, Nicola Copping, The Financial Times.

6. “Avoid platforms – the higher you are, the harder you fall”, wise words from ELLE’s Anne-Marie Curtis.

So go forth and attack those cobbles and if you do go down, just pray there isn’t a film crew nearby. NB, the fashion week powers have categorically rejected a plea for security guard piggy-backs, so don’t ask!
